Circle X was founded in 1996 by seven artists committed to fostering high-quality, innovative live theatre in a city dominated by the television industry and commercial showcase theatre. Eleven years later, they have become one of the most critically celebrated and best-loved small theatres in Los Angeles, known for their "refreshingly original and imaginative" production aesthetic (LA Times). Steven Leigh Morris of LA Weekly cited Circle X as "more evidence for the ability of our small theatres to touch the sky." Circle X now boasts more that 50 members, and our 25 productions (14 World Premieres) have garnered numerous awards, including ten Garlands, fourteen L.A. Weekly Awards and four Ovations.
Circle X is gearing up for its 09/10 season, including the Debut Production of "Lascivious Something" by Sheila Callaghan at [Inside] the Ford, a World Premiere by Casey Smith of "Violators will be Violated."
In my three years in LA, I haven't seen anything, group or productino that comesclose to them. Every detail, lighting, acting, the courteous staff. A great time!
They do amazing work, i.e. the Brothers Karamazov.
Phenomenal new plays by up-and-coming playwrights - celebrate the new!
Their shows are high quality and have terrific story lines, original, creative and well executed technically.
Circle X produces amazing theatre! I always leave their shows creatively fulfilled. I find their shows thought provoking and great entertainment! If you haven't seen a Circle X show, you're missing GREAT THEATRE!
They blow me away every time!
The only theater in LA producing art and not just showcases for agents to see!
Brilliant!
Not just high-quality and professional - it's the most creative company in town.
There theater is beautiful and moving.
I worked with Circle X once upon a time. They were awesome and I would love to work with them again.
The people in Circle X make it the best. They are talented, creative, beautiful people who love and use theater to entertain, not to secure an agent. They are risky, experimental, they give the audience what they need and they give back. They are truly top notch. LA is lucky to have them!
Circle X consistently produces interesting, well-written, smart plays and does so masterfully. The artistic staff, actors, designers are all top-notch. Circle X's excellent work could compete with any theatre of any size.
This is also the best company to belong to in Los Angeles!
Circle X is a not-for-profit ensemble theatre company dedicated to highly provocative and boldly theatrical productions of new and rarely-seen plays. We believe in imagination over budget, adrenaline over inertia and excellence over all. Through art and action we cultivate a better community.
