Organic Foods & Drinks.
It's that simple.
Goodwin's Organic Foods & Drinks made the decision to provide you with the comfort of knowing that no matter what foods or drinks you enjoy at our market or take home, you're getting only the purest and most whole Organic foods and drinks available.
What difference does that make? A lot. Organic foods provide higher nutritional values. They contain virtually no chemical residues and disease-causing agents. And they have lower levels of nitrates, a chemical that in high amounts has been shown to cause cancer.
The bottom line is that God did a perfect job creating the food that sustains us, and our commitment is to deliver it to you just as He intended – without anything added or altered.
Nature also gave us a perfect eating plan - a natural color code! Red, Orange, Yellow, Green and Blue-Purple provide a guide for optimal health. We'll be highlighting one of these colors each week along with the produce that they represent. You'll find information about the foods that comprise each group and the benefits that they offer. And you'll learn how to eat in such a way to vitalize your living, improving the quality of your life now – and contributing to your future longevity.
Nice, very clean and great store for vegetarians!! I shop here whenever I am out that way. Kind of a bizarre location....?sure wish they were in Loma Linda! But worth the drive!
Hands down the best organic foods grocery store around! I LOVE Goodwins, they have great selections of everything, fresh produce, meat and poultry. You MUST go to Goodwins if you want to eat healthy and feed your family real food that has no hormones, chemicals and pesticides. The store is so clean and organized, the staff is the best and friendliest in all of Riverside. You will not be dissappointed!
Organic's are becoming available to everyone!
Eating clean organic food is finally something that more and more people are doing these days. I am so happy a store like Goodwin's opened up. I stumbled upon it one day and now I shop there weekly. I only worry about the odd location behind UCR. I am afraid not enough people know about it.
The store is so clean, the people so nice, and everything is organic! Huge selection of organic milk including raw milk which is hard to find. Anything you need you can find there in a healthier organic version. Love it!
If you are going all organic or just starting out, this place will inspire you to want to live a pesticide, chemical and hormone free life.
Best place in Riverside! Period. Members get FREE internet (secure site) 10% off all purchases for only $25.00 per year. I have been a member since they opened. I feel so good when I purchase food from Goodwins. I know it's good for me and it always tastes great! The people are the friendliest in the IE by FAR!!! Don't miss out.
Very unique and all organic! The conceot and layout of the store is well formatted and one of kind. Its a must shop!
I like their sandwiches. Their food is pretty good, for organic food. If you want to save the environment and eat healthy, there is no better way to go. I ride my bike there.
Is the best place to eat and do some shopping!!!
I LOVE this place!!! I can't think of any other place that offers the same kind of service and the selection of organic products is just simply incredible! Goodwin's Organics is not only a superb organic grocery store, but a great hang-out/study place as well~ the only thing that worries me is that once I step into the store I won't want to leave ;-P for those who are into organics or simply thinking about giving organic food a try I would definitely recommend Goodwin's Organics Food&Drink. oh, forgot to mention how great there deli and coffee shop are... once you walk into their store the first thing you might notice is how aromatic it is. depending on where you go---the smell of those delicious gourmet meal will just make you droooooool---where the coffee, made with $13,000.00 Clover1 coffee brewer (probably the trendiest machine in coffee industry right now... I totally didn't expect to see that here in hold-in-the-wall-R'side...) will make you feel you've fell in love with organic coffee! the location of the store is a little on the hard-to-find side part of Riverside, but since I went to UCR it wasn't too hard for me to find. just give their store a call and their friendly(est) staff will provide you detail direction to their store. speaking of friendly.... I've never been to a grocery store where they make you feel...emm...how to put this.... "at home" they are just a bunch of nicest persons you can find all serving at this little mom-and-pop organic store. I give them a big two thumbs up!

Goodwin's is an all organic grocery store, with nearly everything you need, including a nice sized produce and meat section. Unlike Trader Joe's everything is organic, so there's less label-reading required : )
Even better- in addition, the store has a cafeteria which serves ready made organic foods as well as a fabulous coffee bar. It's a great lunch spot. They generally have a spread of Asian and Mexican options, pizza, a salad bar, soups, sandwiches and deli salads. You can select whatever you'd like and then you pay by weight. The service is always great too.
It's in a funny plaza, so I almost missed it (it's the plaza with the University Book Exchange). I enter from Watkins Drive.
Def. give Goodwin's a try!

I try to buy organic whenever possible, for I want to support foods grown without pesticides and using sustainable farming. I've been rather lucky lately. because while browsing yelp, I'll hear about a neat place in the Riverside area...but there will only be literally one review! However, having some blind faith in the fellow yelper, I have yet to be dissatisfied by any of their recommendations.
When I heard about Goodwin's from Kerry M., I knew this would be the kind of store I would like. I have never shopped at an all-organic grocery store before, and I went to check it out and stock up on groceries. With the nearest Whole Foods Market a whopping 35 miles away, I was hoping that I could find a more local alternative for buying my organic necessities.
As Kerry mentioned...Goodwin's is in sort of a weird plaza. They stand out like a pristine thumb in the soreness of the plaza. Everything in the store is organic. They have a good variety of products including fresh produce, herbs, pasta and rice, frozen meats (I got some yummy turkey burgers!), yogurts, salad dressings, milk/butters, and just everything!!
I am extra happy that they carry the organic milk that I have been drinking with my family for around 10 years, Clover Stornetta. They also have other Clover Stornetta dairy products like butter and yogurt! I was happy about that :P.
The only complaint I have is that all of their loaves of bread are frozen! I guess the bread does not have preservatives and is very susceptible to spoiling...but I passed on purchasing the bread.
Their prepared food area smelled delicious, but unfortunately I was not hungry! Maybe I'll grab some lunch there next time.
I will admit, that their prices are a step up of what you would normally find in your average grocery store...I think they're even more expensive than Whole Foods! My grocery bill came out to $100 for a variety of fruits/veggies, rice, yogurt, milk, butter, turkey burgers, popsicles, and some other items. That day, I just wanted to get my grocery shopping over with here, but in the future I think I will probably buy some organic items here like milk and buy other things at Trader Joe's, where it is more affordable.
Kudos to this place for supporting organic! You should definitely stop by and check it out. :)

Whale Tails Found in Riverside?
Goodwins Organic Market Chips In for Ocean Conservation
This week our newly opened Goodwin's Organic Market, in Riverside, added one more unique product to their growing variety of certified organic products. Now the snack aisle will offer a certified kosher, organic, non gmo tortilla chip that is shaped like a Whale's Tail.
Billy Ha, Goodwins Marketing Director, said “We only offer organic items and we just won the title of Market of the Month in Progressive Grocer magazine. At Goodwin's, I am always looking for rare and quality organic products like Whale Tails Tortilla Chips.” Billy said he was excited when he learned that in addition to the company's mission of funding ocean conservation their chips are made right down the road in San Bernardino. Mr Ha is glad to “chip in” and provide shelf space for local companies.
Goodwin's Organic Foods & Drinks opened quietly in early January on 191 West Big Springs Road in Riverside, off Watkins Drive just blocks from the entrance to the UC Riverside Campus. The 10,000-square-foot store carries a full line of produce, dairy, meat and other food items, all certified organic by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and its authorized agents.
I got a chance to speak with Ric Kraszewski, Sales Director Whale Tails Tortilla Chips, as he unloaded cases of his brightly colored 2 oz and 9 oz packages of Whale Tails Tortilla Chips. The package art depicts a pod of whales playing in a pristine bay just off a tropical island. Ric said “Our product just seems to find a way to the stores that are willing to support our efforts to provide funding for ocean conservation. I was absolutely thrilled when I got the call from Billy that he wanted to bring us in. As a grassroots company we have learned how valuable shelf space is for retailers and we appreciate when retailers like Goodwin's, are willing to give us a chance.” Ric added that he was proud to have his product located at the gateway to UC Riverside. UC Riverside's Department of Environmental Sciences has long been associated with environmental issues. Ric told me “UC Riverside Professors, Roberto Sánchez-Rodríguez and Arturo Gomez Pompa have been prominent in ecological issues in Baja. At Whale Tails Tortilla Chips we donated our first 10 percent to fund water quality surveys in Magdalena Bay in Baja California Mexico.” UC Riverside Professor Sánchez-Rodríguez, Roberto is the Director of UC Mexus, a group which focuses on human dimensions of global environmental change, urban issues in urban areas, and transboundary environmental problems. His research concentrates on the human impact of global environmental change, environmental issues in urban areas, sustainable development, U.S.-Mexico border environmental policies and practices, and ties between trade and environment. UC Riverside Professor Arturo Gomez Pompa is a distinguished Professor of Botany. Dr. Arturo Gómez-Pompa recently received the "Honorary Researcher Award" from the Institute of Ecology (INECOL) in Veracruz, the largest institute in Mexico devoted to the study of ecology.
Billy Ha. Marketing Director, promises to add more products like Whale Tails Tortilla Chips to Goodwin's Organics to give his store the variety that you won't be able to find at the major grocery chains. If your in the neighborhood stop by and grab a bag of delicious Whale Tails Tortilla Chips with a sandwich from their well stocked deli. The store also has a street-level patio for outdoor dining, and those who sign up for a membership card have access to an upstairs coffee and study lounge with FREE Wi-Fi access with hook-ups for laptops. Goodwin's offers party and office catering.

Organic market opens near UC Riverside

The Press-Enterprise
It may not be a household name in groceries, but Goodwin's Market has been a steady Inland presence since George Goodwin Sr. opened his first store serving the San Bernardino mountain communities in 1946.
Three more generations of Goodwins have continued to operate the family's three markets at Crestline, Lake Gregory and Running Springs. And recently, George Sr.'s grandson Martin Goodwin made the family's first foray into the increasingly popular realm of organic foods.
Goodwin's Organic Foods & Drinks opened quietly in early January on West Big Springs Road in Riverside, off Watkins Drive near the UC Riverside campus. The 10,000-square-foot store carries a full line of produce, dairy, meat and other food items, all certified organic by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and its authorized agents.
Organics must meet strict requirements that no unnatural elements went into their production. For dairy and meat products, it means no growth hormones, antibiotics or other chemicals were fed to animals used in the process.
Martin Goodwin, 62, said he opened the store to serve a neighborhood that hasn't had an all-purpose grocery market since a nearby Ralphs closed at Watkins Drive and Blaine Street a few years ago. But it's no coincidence that the store is also just blocks from a large cluster of dorms at UC Riverside.
"The leading edge of this is the younger people," Goodwin said. "They know a lot about organics, and they want healthy things in their lives."

Mary Goodwin sorts bouquets of flowers at Goodwin's Organic Foods & Drinks on Valentine's Day. The family-owned market, which opened in January, carries certified organic meat, dairy, produce -- much of which is locally grown -- and other products.
The store was developed and built over the course of four years, and Goodwin said about two years went into researching and lining up certified suppliers from throughout California and other states.
Much of the produce is grown locally, including oranges from Riverside and vegetables from the Coachella Valley. Baby foods, milk, chicken and beef, as well as the sushi at the store's deli counter, are all certified organic. Pizzas are baked from scratch with organic ingredients, and soups, salads, juices and smoothies are made fresh with items from the store's shelves.
The store also has a street-level patio for outdoor dining, and those who sign up for a membership card -- at $25 a year -- have access to an upstairs coffee and study lounge with free Wi-Fi access, as well as an upstairs outdoor patio with hook-ups for laptops.

"It's meant to be a very social atmosphere," Goodwin said.
Membership also gives customers a 10 percent discount on all purchases, which Goodwin said puts his prices in line with the offerings of chains such as Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. The store's checkout technology figures in added discounts based on customers' frequent past purchases.

The Goodwin family has operated markets in San Bernardino mountain cities since George Goodwin Sr. opened a store in 1946. His grandson, Martin, just opened this organic market in Riverside.
Experts note that organics remain a relative niche segment of the grocery industry, even as supermarket chains increase their selection. But their popularity is rising amid heightened concerns about health, the environment and food safety.
"Especially when there are food scares, people get really concerned about what's in their food," said Marcia Mogelonsky, a senior analyst at market research firm Mintel International in Chicago.
Depending on the food category, organic items often sell at a 20 to 30 percent price premium compared with mainstream products. But Mogelonsky said recent studies have found consumers especially willing to pay the higher cost if the food will be consumed by children, making baby food, milk and cereals among the most popular organic items.
A recent national survey by Mintel found that 52 percent of Americans purchased organic foods in the past year, up from 34 percent in 2002. Mintel estimates that national sales of organics, not including those sold at Wal-Mart and warehouse stores, are currently about $5.7 billion annually, and that figure is expected to rise 59 percent by 2012.
Goodwin's offers party and office catering and also plans to conduct organic cooking classes.
Goodwin said his lunch and dinner traffic has been steady, but admits things are quiet outside of meal times.
"We purposefully haven't advertised or publicized the place so far, because we wanted to make sure everything was set up right," he said.
Riverside resident Elisa McLaurin, who has lived in the neighborhood for the past seven years, said the store felt surprisingly hushed during her recent visits, but she's generally pleased with the offerings.
"The prices are pretty good for what it is, and they do have some things they don't have at other stores," McLaurin said. "And it's good to see a grocery store around here again."
