The most authentic Ethiopian food in LA bar none! No shortcuts on preparation here - obvious when you treat yourself to anything on her menu. My personal favorites: 1) Kitfo; 2) Vegetarian combination - such a variety of flavors in one dish ... treat yourself.

I'd heard that Genet is the best in town for Ethiopian food _period_, and the ambiance and service are definitely several cuts above the rest. But the reason I'm going to gush about the place is this: if you're looking for vegan and vegetarian options specifically (like me), this place can't be beat! Some places will give you a vegetarian combination with five items...Genet gives you eleven! And no one else that I know of makes a traditional Tibs dish with Tofu instead of meat. You seriously have to try it, it's unlike any other tofu dish I've had, and the same goes for her delicious Ethiopian salad!! And don't forget to order a Harar beer! Meals by Genet rocks!!
Not only is the food scrumptious (please try the Ethiopian salad and Dorowot if you haven't yet), but the restaurant gives off a bit of a romantic feel, what with the placement of lighting and large mirror in the background. Also, what many restaurants in L.A. are lacking is a certain level of cleanliness but not Genet's. Meals by Genet is so clean, you can almost eat off the floor! Cleanliness is a MUST. She definitely has my vote!
