Way back in 1970, four college students opened the doors to a small "hippie joint" which took its name from a spin on the word for the unloved turnip ? the rutabaga. In the beginning serving only coffee and desserts, Rutabegorz has evolved through numerous menu additions and changing consumer tastes over the years into today's full service health conscious restaurant. In addition to its many vegetarian dishes, Ruta's also offers white breast of chicken, turkey, tuna and assorted lean deli meats. All our unique salad dressings as well as our mayonnaise, sour cream and milk are low in fat content. As usual our fresh fruits and vegetables are of the highest quality available. We use no MSG in any of our recipes. Try one of our famous desserts, always made in-house. Our mission is to provide the community with a healthy alternative to traditional restaurant offerings, without sacrificing taste. This is a great place for vegetarians to go with their carnivorous friends. There is a wonderful selection of veggie foods and the meat dishes are presented in a way that is not offensive. I’ve been eating here for years and love the quaint atmosphere and the service is always top notch. (If you were there to experience the 60’s and early 70’s then you know the atmosphere is real and not put on to look like something from the time.)

Ehh. Not truely vegetarian..lot of meat products offered. The dishes were also pretty oil heavy and greasy. Nice service, but the atmosphere almost tries to hard to be indie/hippie/bohemian, almost to the point of discomfort. Went there twice, wouldn't go back.

I have been eating there since the 70s. There food and service have been consistently good. I have tried quite a bit of their extensive menu, and have always enjoyed what I got. The atmoshere has been bohemian since befor cappachino joints started trying to replicate the vibe.
