Susan Schomburg opened the Schomburg Gallery at Bergamot Station Arts Center in 2001 after almost a decade of working on Melrose Avenue, as a research director for William A. Karges Fine Art, the veteran L.A. dealer of California Impressionism and later as the Director of Edenhurst Gallery, where she specialized in early California Impressionist paintings. Ms. Schomburg comes from an art family. Her grandfather was the legendary illustrator Alex Schomburg whose work graced the covers of Marvel Comics Captain America as well as books by Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clarke. Alex was the first artist hired by Stanley Kubrick to work on 2001: A Space Odyssey. In her first year of business, Schomburg came out of the starting blocks quickly. Schomburg's April 2002 show of Domenic Cretara's paintings of the OJ Simpson murder trial attracted television news coverage for the opening -- a rare occurrence for an art opening.

You never feel uncomfortable even if you don't know a lot!
As an artist myself, I Appreciate the art that the Schomburg Gallery shows.
Susan, her gallery and the artwork is absolutely beautiful!
The gallery gives upcoming artists a place to show their work.
Susan has a gifted eye for art that embellishes our emotions and pleases the senses; art that is reflective of us rather than decor.
The wide range of art. Always unique and beautiful.
Love the originality of the eclectic art on display and the diversity of the artists!
The quality and pricing is very thoughtful and it is a neat place to go and look at art!
Great stuff and super person running the gallery.
Susan Schomburg makes fresh art accessible to LA. She invites new artists, and welcomes visitors into her gallery without being the least bit invasive. I never feel pressured to engage in conversation or buy work when I go to her gallery. Yet, I always end up talking to her because she is a fountain of information and is very likable. I love the fact that she is willing to show relatively unknown artists.
