Strickland's Frozen Custard was founded in 1936 by Bill and Florence Strickland. During his years as an Akron Pure Milk employee, Bill developed his own rich recipe of cream, eggs, sugar and other ingredients. With his formula perfected, Bill turned his attention to finding an ice cream machine that would quickly freeze the ice cream, while limiting the air whipped into the product. The result was Strickland's award-winning frozen custard. Bill and Florence built the first Strickland's Frozen Custard stand on Triplett Avenue in Akron, Ohio, and the Strickland's legend was born. The original stand is still in operation today, run by the third generation of the Strickland's family, and serving the same fantastic ice cream that made Strickland's a local landmark.
I don't eat dairy but there's still options for me to eat, like slushies. They also have Pineapple Dole Whip, the stuff at Disneyland, which is so good. Yummy!

Discovered this place from last years survey and now make special trips their to enjoy the ice cream.
No one else in Southern California has ice cream (actually frozen custard) that even comes close to Stricklands. I live quite a ways from Irvine, where Stricklands is located and find excuses to drive out there for their ice cream. It was one of the few things I craved during my pregnancy! Not only is it the best in the OC, but the best in all of Southern California!
They are the only shop to make the ice cream fresh daily and NOT frozen, so it still has that wonderful flavor that you just don't get from a congealed tub of ice cream, no matter what fancy mix-ins you add. And that fresh flavor is changed daily on a schedule, so you can know what's coming up. No other shop has that!
It's simply the best, but their is nothing simple about-they create unique flavors on a weekly basis (sign up for the newsletter and you'll know what's mixin') that are creamy,delicious & real! Their macadamia nut (which they don't have often enough) is better than what we got in Hawaii which at the time I thought was the best. If you want the 'Real McCoy' go to Stricklands!!!!

This is the best ice cream I have ever eaten. It has the most wonderful consistency and flavors. The owners always have a smile on their faces and the cones they make have a great shape. The daily calendar makes it easy to keep track of one's favorite flavors.

Homemade ice cream made fresh daily. A smooth flavorfull large scoops that beats all commers. Recommend to anyone who seeks the best of a product they buy. In a nice ice cream parlor setting. Take out pint and quart size of all flavors. Daily special flavors.
