Established in 1981, the American Cinematheque is a non-profit viewer-supported film exhibition and cultural organization dedicated to the celebration of the Moving Picture in all of its forms. The Cinematheque presents daily film and video programming which ranges from the classics of American and international cinema to new independent films and digital work. Exhibition of rare works, special and rare prints, etc., combined with fascinating post-screening discussions with the filmmakers who created the work, are a Cinematheque tradition. The American Cinematheque renovated and reopened on the historic 1922 Hollywood Egyptian Theatre. This includes a state-of-the-art 616-seat theatre housed within Sid Grauman's first grand movie palace on Hollywood Boulevard. The Egyptian was the home of the very first Hollywood movie premiere in 1922

Nothing compares to the Egyptian. Each time I attend a screening it is an education with Q & A with cast members or the film makers themselves. Besides that the theater is gorgeous, the popcorn really good and the festivals and genre variety keep my love for film alive.
Truly diverse programming ranging from modernly edgy, to classic and campy in a beautiful setting with great projection.
Great Movies. Great theater. Always a great time.
The Egyptian exudes cinematic history. You can only imagine what Golden-age Hollywood luminaries frequented that hallowed space. It is truly a sacred experience watching films at the Egyptian!!!
The Egyptian plays a variety of quality films both old and new appealing to a diverse audience.
The restoration of the inside makes it by far the most beautiful place to watch the latest in Indie film.
The Egyptian Theater does it all: film preservation and education; presentation of a vast variety of films, most of which you'll never see anywhere else; sneak previews of new films; in-house festivals and events; rental house for festivals, etc.; speakers' forums highlighting aspects of film making; and much more... Not to mention that they're keeping alive one of the fabulous historical venues from old Hollywood. A great, great organization!
Tthey are classy, eclectic and loyal to their cause.
Awesome classic Hollywood location in the Grand tradition. They show a variety of really good movies - with in-person guests. Top quality prints & comfy seats. Not a bad seat in the house. Try the balcony!
Best sound and picture around, films you often can't see anywhere else and you get to hear filmmakers talk about making the film!
