Cool space, good drinks, but I wasn't too impressed with the food. Music also seemed a bit loud for a dinner joint.
The Arsenal Mall doesn't have much going for it...the Marshalls is ok and there is a Filenes upstairs, but really this is a pretty mediocre mall.
This is the mall I grew up on and it's only improved with the addition of Nordstrom's and the new(ish) Cheesecake Factory. Big Macy's and Lord and Taylor as well as most of the small niche stores. The Anthropologie seems to be popular.
Bayview Beach is a simple, but great beach. It's resident-only parking so you don't get quite as much riff-raff as you would at Mayflower (just down the road). A lot of families, but if you want some space to your own there is usually some to be found.
Great little bookstore with a big selection. They have a lot of paperbacks which is clutch for the beach.
I routinely travel all the way from Dennis Village to Red Cottage because it is hands down the best breakfast spot I have ever been to.
The menu is extensive, but I usually hone in on the Eggs Benedict or my favorite omelette: apple maple sausage, caramelized onions and vermont cheddar. The home fries are otherworldly too.
The local wine shop has undergone a minor overhaul and now is much easier to walk around in. Good selection of beers and wines. Prices are on the high side, but I can't complain too much.
This farm stand along 6A has great fresh-picked corn and other produce as well as an excellent plant section
Honestly, you can't ask for much more in a local market. They have some of the best cuts of meat on the Cape and have a great deli section. Don't miss out on their famous red bliss potato salad. If only they had a fish counter...
O'Sullivan's serves what I think is probably the BIGGEST burger in Boston. I believe they don't flatten the patty at all and just basically let a big ball of ground beef cook itself to perfection. While it is not my personal favorite a lot of people really enjoy this style. I can't say I liked the potato wedges as fries. The atmosphere is nice, beer selection solid and it's got a nice location away from the craziness of Porter Sq or Inman Sq. I'll have to try it again.
Ahh Red Hat -- that old Beacon Hill standby. I used to do trivia here relatively frequently and it was always a good time. They have a free self-service popcorn machine in the basement. The food is very average, but who cares. Beer choices are solid but unspectacular.
Slightly overpriced mediocre Greek food. The chicken and lamb kebabs are tasty and served over a salad. The baklava was awful -- stay awy. My friend was in love with this place; I never quite understood it, but the food is serviceable.
For all-around excellence, Chau Chow City is the premiere Chinese Restaurant in Chinatown. Not only do they have the most popular, and best weekend Dim Sum, but the menu dishes are authentic and spectacular. There is never a shortage of seating and the kicker is that its open until 3am.
Late night weekends offer a unique opportunity to enjoy tremendous food (good drunk food...) and do some of the finest people watching the city offers.
Very nice Irish Bar on Main St in Santa Monica with great natural light, good seating, and frequent music. Smithwicks on tap is poured perfectly.
Cute little Italian spot with delicious food. It's pricey for take-out, but the food is fantastic. My favorite is the gnocchi with chicken and sun dried tomatoes. Eating in is great, but there's usually a wait.
I usually do the burrito thing 2-3 times a week, so I consider myself a pretty good judge of what's good and what's not. Unfortunately the burrito place closest to my place is the worst burrito I've had in Boston. The rice is wayyyy too oily/buttery/something else foreign and the meat was flavorless.
When Gitlo's first started up the food was great and I was really pleased to have a (unique) dim sum spot a block away. It's been probably 6 months now and I think the food has started to slip.
Also anytime they give you an estimate on takeout time, add 15 minutes to it. I've waited in the store for over 20.
The food is still good and I'd recommend the rainbow noodles with chicken.
This BBQ place isn't quite as bad as I first expected. I've had a brisket sandwich and also the pulled pork. Nothing to write home about, but if you want BBQ in Allston it works.
I've only been here a few times, but I've been surprised. They make a mean lamb shwarma. I get the plate with rice and it's all real fresh and delicious.
The Minuteman Bikepath is really a beautiful ride. The stretches through Arlington and the Great Meadows in Lexington are so scenic. There is a nice tree cover providing a lot of shade and keeping the temperature of the asphalt to a minimum. No better place to ride in the Boston area.
